A couple of you have been asking me about the food, so here's a food summary:
- Fresh fish from Pilar's farm (above) is both delicious and easier to eat than it was in Turkey. Also, it turns out playing with the fish's head to make it talk is funny in both cultures.
- Fried plaintain (above) is also delicious.
- Empanadas are popular (and good), but so are pizza and hamburgers (with green tomatoes). Typically a slice of pizza or an empanada from a street vendor costs about $1.
- Milk comes in a sack, just like in elementary school.
- There is no peanut butter (but I brought plenty with me!)
- There are lots of new fruits, but I don't know any of the names still.
- The cereal here is... lacking.
- Ham is extremely popular; turkey is extremely expensive.
- According to Colombians I met at a bar, beer is for when you are thirsty and liquor is for when you want to dance.

So now you need to learn how to cook plantain, since you can now get it in most US grocery stores.
Make plantain chips, its what we did in Uganda - cut em up into inch width pieces, fry them so they get a bit soft, then take them and mash them into flat discs (mash em with the bottom of a cup), throw them back into the pan until they cook. Eat em with tomato sauce. Delicious. Almost like french fries...
I wanna hear a liquor dancing story in your next blog entry.
