With nearly 40% international students, Fuqua is a very diverse school. One of the ways that Fuqua tries to connect domestic and international students is through "Around the World" dinner parties, which are organized and paid for by the student government. Students sign up to be either guests or hosts for dinners, with hosts cooking a meal from their native region. Obviously, I was all about being a guest.
My group was extra international it seemed, because every one of us had spent significant time living outside the US. Our host was from the US, but had lived in Panama for almost 4 years as a Peace Corps volunteer. She was an incredible cook, and our meal consisted of Panamanian ceviche (DELICIOUS! Forgot to take a picture of this and it was devoured QUICKLY), tilapia served with a typical Latin salad and rice, and finally, homemade coconut ice cream. We also had one other Peace Corp volunteer in our group who had spent his 2 years in Zambia, 2 students from China (1 not pictured), 1 from Peru, and our host's roommate, who lived in Egypt for 2 years and, ironically, went to UVA and graduated in 2006 like me, although she is in the public policy school at Duke. Naturally, we quickly discovered we have a lot of mutual friends.
Anyway, it was a GREAT time, and I can't wait for the next around the world dinner.
